I got tagged to do one of these on Instagram. Thought I’d post it here.
These aren’t my favourite albums (except for Since I Left You,) this is just what’s on heavy rotation in the apartment during quarantine.
#1 Crash Bandicoot Soundtrack
During quarantine I am striving to fully complete the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy (also turned it into a drinking game, post on that coming soon.) One of the best things about the game is the music. The original soundtrack, created by Devo, fits the theme of Crash so well. My favourite track is from Crash Bandicoot Warped when you’re riding a tiger along the Great Wall of China.
#2 The Avalanches – Since I Left You
I should really make this its own blog post. There was a couple of years back in the day when I listened to this record pretty much every day. It’s made entirely of samples, about 3000 samples apparently. It’s such a party album but it has so much heart as well. The opening moments sound like yer stepping on to a Yacht and the next hour is just a fucking whirlwind of genres smashing together to create something wholly unique and beautiful. I can’t gush over Since I Left You enough.
#3 Fatboy Slim – Why Try Harder: The Greatest Hits
I don’t usually like listening to “greatest hits” or “best of” albums, I like to listen to the proper thing. But as Fatboy Slim is such a fucking hit maker and has so many of them, this is an exception (exception #2 is Basement Jaxx’ The Singles.) This is great to have on during quarantine, it’s just a good fucking time. Hit after Hit after Hit after Hit! Also, I saw him in Madrid last year and it was one of the greatest gigs I’ve ever seen.
#4 Yves Tumor – Heaven To A Tortured Mind
This is part of the swag just because it’s the 2020 album I’ve been listening to the most. It’s probably my favourite of the year so far. I don’t really want to talk about it too much because I think I’m gunna do a full post on it. I just love how TV on the Radio circa 2006 it sounds. The music totally threw me for a loop as Yves comes from an industrial electronic background and Heaven to a Tortured Mind is brit-pop almost!
And that’s my Billy swag.
